HÀ NỘI – The latest creations by Việt Nam’s leading fashion designers will take centre stage at this year’s fall-winter runway at Việt Nam Fashion Week, which opens on Friday.

Fourteen designers from Việt Nam and Spain will show 1,000 outfits in two nights of ready-to-wear and one haute couture show on the evening of Friday (February 24), Saturday (February 25) and Sunday (February 26). The event will take place at its usual location at Việt Nam Television’s S14 studio on Nguyễn Chí Thanh Street, Hà Nội.

Veteran designer Minh Hạnh, and founder of Việt Nam Fashion Week, said the designs focus this year on more casual outfits to satisfy customers’ growing demand for clothes that fit travelling and daily outdoor activity.

“A ready-to-wear design should be useful and applicable in daily life. Moreover, it should fit customers’ pocketbooks,” she said.

She also highlighted at the press conference on Tuesday the difficulties of designers in their innovation to develop the domestic fashion while Việt Nam still has to import lot of textile materials from abroad.

The fashion week attracted the participation of some well-known designers, including Công Huân, Ngọc Hân, Hà Duy, Chu La, and Minh Hạnh.

Young designer Duy Nguyễn expects to impress audiences with his creations from the brocade he found in Làng Tèng village of H’Re ethnic people in Quảng Ngãi province.

Minh Hạnh went back in time to historic Japan with a dress collection made from hakata ori, which can be traced back to 1235.

Phương Thanh used 3D printing technique on silk to create innovative dresses in classical styles with impressive design of birds singing under sunshine or in the darkness.

According to Quang Tú, representative of the organising committee, 5,000 reeds will be brought to the television’s studio from Hà Nội’s Sơn Tây town city and used as background for the stage and properties of the models.

All the collections that are shown during the Việt Nam Fashion Week Fall Winter 2017 will be on display and sold at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum, located at 36 Lý Thường Kiệt Street, Hà Nội, from February 27 to March 1.

Vietnamese Fashion week is held twice a year, and it gives designers a chance to improve their skills, encourage young designers and get a feel for customers’ taste. -VNS
