Hanoi targets 4.3 million foreign tourists in 2017

Promoting the successes of 2016, Hanoi’s tourism sector determines to greet 4.3 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2017.

This figure included 3.07 million arrivals staying overnight, up 6% over a year earlier. In addition, the city strives to provide services for 19.31 million domestic tourists, a year-on-year rise of 8.4%. Total tourist turnover reached VND66.6 trillion, up 8%.

The sector will focus on specific tasks such as carrying out contents related to coordinating with the CNN cable network to promote the city’s tourism, building logo, signposts and tourist products, developing free Wi-fi hotspots, and establishing projects to digitize the tourism database.

It will also cooperate with diplomatic representative organs, international organizations, overseas Vietnamese embassies, airlines, communications, and foreign and domestic travel agencies to introduce, promote, exploit and develop its tourist markets.

Hanoi will continue to check to adjust and supplement the Hanoi tourism development scheme by 2020 with a orientation to 2030, and realize the scheme of developing Ba Vi – Suoi Hai tourism area into a national tourism area by 2025, with an orientation to 2030.

The city will organize tourism promotion events domestically and internationally, and join international tourism fairs in major markets and new markets, such as the welcoming of the first international tourist and the four millionth foreign tourists to Hanoi in 2017, Hanoi traditional craft village tourism festival and Vietnam International Travel Market – Hanoi.

Also in 2017, the northern hub will host the 16th meeting of the Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA) in Hanoi, and bilaterally cooperate with some CPTA cities.

In 2016, foreign tourist arrivals to Hanoi reached an estimated 4.02 million, a year-on-year increase of 23%, in which 2.9 million tourists stayed overnight, up 24%. The city served 17.8 million domestic tourist arrivals, up 8%. Total tourism revenue posted VND61.8 trillion, up 12%./.
