Chappe Bertrand, the lucky tourist and a Frenchman, expressed his surprise and pleasure at the warm welcome the city’s leaders and people gave to him.
Vice Chairwoman of the HCM City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu noted that the event marked the sustainable development of the city’s tourism sector.
With its advantages and potential, HCM City has been exerting numerous efforts to create favourable conditions for tourism development, she said.
Thu added that the city has also boosted tourism promotion activities, diversified tourism products, facilitated the training of human resources for the tourism sector, and built a friendly and hospitable environment to attract international visitors.
The number of tourists to HCM City has been on the rise over the past years with an annual average growth rate of 8.2%, contributing to enhancing the city’s position in Southeast Asia.
HCM City expects to welcome more than 5.2 million foreign tourists in 2016, a year-on-year increase of 10%, and 21.8 million domestic visitors, up 10% compared to 2015.
The city’s tourism sector is striving to receive 5.5 million international arrivals and 24 million domestic arrivals in 2017, earning a total revenue of VND112 trillion (around US$4.9 billion).
