HCMC welcomes five millionth international visitor

The HCMC Department of Tourism, Tourist Association hosted a ceremony to receive the five millionth international visitor at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on December 24.

Deputy chairwoman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu attended the ceremony and gave foreign visitors flowers.

Ms. Thu said that the number of international visitors to the city grows an average of 8.2 percent a year, contributing to boost the city’s economic structure transfer into a better one.

The ceremony marked a sustainable development step of the city’s tourist industry.

Amid the atmosphere of celebrating Xmas and welcoming solar new year 2017, Ms. Thu hoped that visitors will experience local culture, custom and festival as well as the hospitality and humanity of Vietnamese.

Being surprised and happy to the city’s leaders’ warm welcome, the five millionth visitor Mr. Chappe Bertrand said that his wife family is Vietnamese. They have returned Vietnam to celebrate X-mas and new year 2017. Afterwards they will visit some destinations such as Hue and Hoi An .

Vietnam is very beautiful with a lot of specific charming natural landscapes and Vietnamese are very friendly and hospitable, he added.

According to director of the HCMC Department of Tourism Bui Ta Hoang Vu, the city has planned to receive 5.6 million international visitors in 2017.

HCMC will focus on developing new tourist types such as agricultural tourism, cuisine, amusement programs in Nguyen Hue walking street and street artist programs.
