The event will bring together around 700 artisans from eight provinces including Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Ha Giang.
It will kick off with an incense offering to President Ho Chi Minh on October 1, followed by an opening ceremony on the evening of the same day, which will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television.
Major cultural activities will be staged during the three-day festival, including an exhibition on the region’s land and people as well as its integration and development, in addition to a traditional costume display.
Cultural rituals and practices of the ethnic groups, including the ‘Cap Sac’ (coming-of-age) rite of passage of the Red Dao people, will also be reproduced for visitors to the festival.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai, throughout its 12 editions, the festival has brought benefits to developing tourism in the region.
The organising board worked to bring new features to this year’s event while still retaining the main focus on the cultural essences of the ethnic groups, he added.
