Nearly 140 Vietnamese businesses join CAEXPO

Viet Nam is joining the 2016 ASEAN-China Expo (CAEXPO) as the Country of Honor, which offers the Southeast Asian country opportunities to attract the attention from international partners and expand its markets.

This year, the Vietnamese National Pavilion of “City of Charm” will introduce the culture of the Central Highlands as well as stories of Vietnamese coffee.

The pavilion, with the participation of 137 businesses from 19 localities nationwide will present their products at 237 stalls on the area of more than 5,000 meter square.

Standard Chartered debuts credit cards in VN

Viet Nam has become an attractive merging market with young and dynamic population and intensively integrated into the global economy, said Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bill Winters at a press conference on September 9.

He asserted that the bank will continue its investment in Viet Nam to seize opportunities brought by the nation.

With high professional skills and widespread international network, the bank may provide effective support for the development of the nation, he added.

Vietnamese carriers ink big deals with Airbus

The national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines andJetstar Pacific inked a memorandum of understandings (MoU) to consider purchasing 20 aircraft of France’s Airbus Group on September 6.

Accordingly, Viet Nam Airlines has signed a deal with France’s Airbus Group for 10 more A350-900 XWB aircraft, becoming the first airline in Southeast Asia and the second one in the world launching the aircraft.

Also on the same day, the budget carrier Jetstar Pacific, a joint venture between Vietnam Airlines and Australia’s Qantas Group, signed a contract to buy 10 new-generation A320 CEO aircraft with Airbus.

The same day, VietJet and Airbus finalized a US$2.39 billion order for 20 more A321s.

Japan provides JPY11 billion loan for VN

The Japanese Government will provide the Vietnamese Government with an JPY11 billion loan in the 2016 fiscal year to help improve socio-economic infrastructure and the competitiveness of the national economy.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Trunghailed Japan as Viet Nam’s biggest bilateral ODA supplier, pledging that the ODA will be used effectively, contributing to further deepening the bilateral economic strategic partnership.

Based on the diplomatic note, the Vietnamese Finance Ministry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency will sign a specific lending agreement in the future.

Fuel prices gain over 700 VND per litre

The prices of RON 92 petrol and bio-fuel E5 were raised VND 702 (US$ 0.31) and VND 611 (US$ 0.27) per litre from 3:00 pm on September 5.

Following a joint decision by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance, the prices of diesel 0.05S and kerosene also increased VND 474 and VND 489 per liter, respectively.

VN listed among 20 best countries to visit

Viet Nam was elected as one of 20 best countries in the world to visit in a recent survey by US magazine Condé Nast Traveler (CNT).

Viet Nam ranked 20th, while Greece and Italy ranked first and second. Last year, the Southeast Asian nation was positioned at 12th place.

Imports of fruits, vegetables in 8 months surge 37%

Imports of fruits and vegetables reached US$420.74 million in the first eight months of this year, a year on year increase of 37%.

Thailand surpassed China to become the biggest fruit, vegetable exporter to Viet Nam, with nearly 38.7% of total import value.

The buying of fruits and vegetables from Thailand in the first seven months hit US$163 million, an increase of more than 70% compared to the same period last year.
