Vietnam Military History Museum receives Fatherland Protection Order

Congratulating the museum on receiving the accolade, Deputy Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Tran Don lauded the significant achievements and development, as well as its proud traditions since its establishment six decades ago.

The Deputy Minister, who is also member of Party Central Committee and member of Central Military Commission, asked the museum’s managing board to improve its display and step up a project on relocating the museum to a new area.

The museum needs to promote its leading role among the military museum system in consulting the Ministry of Defence and General Department of Politics in archive works for the army, he stressed.

It is also necessary to enhance human resource training and improve the quality of the museum’s operation, making it more attractive for visitors, he added.

Established in 1956 in central Hanoi, the museum, previously known as the Army Museum, is among seven national museums of Vietnam. It was named the Vietnam Army Museum Academy in 1964, and renamed the Vietnam Military History Museum in 2002.

The museum boasts over 150,000 objects and documents recounting the history of national construction and defence of Vietnamese people through replications of some prominent battles against foreign invaders. It also has a large collection of preserved military wreckage displayed in the spacious courtyard.

The site has so far received nearly 20 million visitors, including three million from around the world.

It has been honoured with a number of Party and State awards, including the Military Exploit Order, second class and the Feat-of-Arms Order, first class as well as the Laos’ Labour Order, third class.
