The annual awards, held in celebration of the 56th anniversary of Vietnam’s tourism sector (July 9, 1960-2016), aims to honour organisations, businesses and individuals who have positively contributed to the development of Vietnam’s tourism and improved service quality and tourism branding, as well as confirmed their reputation, service quality and business performance in 2015.
In addition to tour operators, hotels, transport service operators, and shopping units serving tourists, this year’s awards also honoured the top tourist destinations in Vietnam.
Among them, companies awarded with the title of “Top ten domestic travel businesses” included Saigontourist, Vietravel, and Hanoitourist; companies awarded the title of “Top ten leading international tour operators taking tourists abroad” included Ben Thanh Tourist and Fiditour; ten hotels awarded the title of “5 Star hotels in Vietnam” included InterContinental Resort Da Nang Sun Peninsula (Da Nang city), Rex Hotel (Ho Chi Minh City), and Hotel Metropole Hanoi; and five awarded “Top tourist complex in Vietnam” included Ba Na Hills resort (Da Nang), Vinpearl Phu Quoc resort in Kien Giang and Sam Son FLC Tourism complex in Thanh Hoa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien appreciated the strong development of the tourism industry over the last 56 years. The sector has contributed significantly to the country’s socio-economic development, creating more jobs and laying a positive impact on economic restructuring and promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends.
The network of tourism businesses in Vietnam play a pivotal role in boosting tourism growth and contribute greatly to national development. There are 1,550 international tour operators, over 20,100 establishments offering accommodation and thousands of companies operating in the sector.
In 2015, the industry reached an impressive milestone after receiving and serving 8 million international arrivals and 57 million domestic tourists. Total revenue from tourists reached VND338 trillion. Over the last six months, the tourism industry welcomed 4.7 million international tourists and 32 million domestic visitors.
Vietnam Travel Awards is the only and most prestigious awards of the tourism industry held jointly by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Vietnam Tourism Association continuously from 1999. After being held for seventeen consecutive years, the awards have a high reputation in the industry, honouring organisations, businesses and individuals who have made positive contributions to the development of Vietnam tourism, asserting the position of tourism in the national economy.
