Con Dao-an archipelago off southern Vietnam has been named one of the best places to visit in Asia in the next 12 months by Lonely Planet.

As an archipelago in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, and also a district of this province that is famous for the heroic feat of arms of the nation and served as a prison island for political prisoners during the French colonial era, Con Dao has now become an international tourism destination, thanks to its primitive beauty, fresh food and plentiful fauna and floral ecosystem.
In addition, pure water, silky sand banks and blue skies are good reasons for tourists to visit Con Dao.
The Con Dao Island includes 16 islands and islets with a total area of 75.15 square kilometres and a sea area of around 14,000sq.km.
By 2020, the province targets attracting more than 180,000 tourist arrivals and earning total revenues, at current prices, of 1.2 trillion VND.
With improved flight connections from HCM City, Con Dao has become an ideal place to feast on fresh seafood, explore a perfect beach, and revel in a castaway vibe, the site wrote.
It takes about 45 minutes for a flight from the southern metropolis to Con Dao Island, long well known for its charming beaches and stunning landscape.
Japan’s Hokkaido ranks first in the list for its skiing resorts and beautiful landscapes. Lonely Planet’s list includes other destinations: China’s Shanghai, the Republic of Korea’s Jeonju, Chinese Taiwan’s Taitung, Malaysia’s Ipoh and India’s Meghalaya.
