A group of 4 Indian women arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday on their motorbike trip through several ASEAN countries to spread message of women empowerment and educating girl child.
The journey of Sarika Mehta, Khyati Desai, Yugma Desai and Durriya Tapia is part of the “Save Girl Child, Educate Girl Child” initiative by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Consulate General in HCMC said in a statement.
The motorcycle journey is led by Mehta, the famous adventure enthusiast and one of the most accomplished Indian women super-bike riders covering Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore.
On Saturday, the team met with Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich, standing vice chairwoman of Vietnam Women’s Association in Ho Chi Minh City and exchanged views on capacity building, welfare, supportive measures for women, and important roles of women in families, societies and economic upliftment of the two countries.
The four had arrived in Vietnam at Gia Lai border from Laos on June 30 and will leave Ho Chi Minh City for Cambodia on July 3.
As scheduled, they will arrive in Singapore, the last destination of their trans-ASEAN journey on July 13.
The women have traveled more than half of the total 12,000 kilometers set for their journey, including 1,500 kilometers in Vietnam alone.
