Hundreds stranded as Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar flights delayed by ‘technical problems’
Due to strong wind and heavy rain in Hanoi Tuesday, a Vietnam Airlines flight from Da Nang had to land in Laos where it was delayed by more than four hours.
Flight VN168 with 205 passengers on board was scheduled to land in Hanoi at around 5 p.m.
In Vientiane, the Airbus 330 was found to have a “technical problem” and passengers had to wait at the airport until 10:50 p.m. before it could resume flying.
But 102 of the passengers refused to take the flight, and Vietnam Airlines had to send another aircraft, which arrived in Hanoi at 11:50 a.m. the next day.
There was another flight delay Tuesday when a Jetstar Pacific flight from Da Lat to Hue scheduled to leave at 7:05 p.m. had to be delayed overnight due to a technical problem.
The media reported that the company only announced the delay at 9:30 p.m. after leaving the 170 passengers waiting for more than 2 hours.
The passengers were put in a nearby hotel overnight before being flown out on subsequent flights.
Hoang Ngoc Giang told news website VnExpress that the following day the airlines informed that he and other 13 passengers would be put on a flight leaving Cam Ranh at 5 p.m.
“We paid VND4 million (US$180) to hire a bus from Da Lat to Cam Ranh. We are frustrated.”
