Officials, engineers and workers of investor Vietnam Railway Corporation and construction, consultancy and supervision units had worked with all their might to open the bridge five days sooner than expected.

A sand barge collided into and collapsed the bridge in March. The incident disrupted the north-south railway’s stretch from Bien Hoa station to Saigon terminal in Ho Chi Minh City.

The bridge collapse caused a total economic damage of hundreds of billions of dong, reaching VND800 billion (US$36.07 million) as of May 16.
