After three hours of loading test, the first passenger train ran over Ghenh Bridge early Saturday to officially resume the north-south railway after 96 days of interruption in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province.

Officials, engineers and workers of investor Vietnam Railway Corporation and construction, consultancy and supervision units had worked with all their might to open the bridge five days sooner than expected.
A sand barge collided into and collapsed the bridge in March. The incident disrupted the north-south railway’s stretch from Bien Hoa station to Saigon terminal in Ho Chi Minh City.
The bridge collapse caused a total economic damage of hundreds of billions of dong, reaching VND800 billion (US$36.07 million) as of May 16.
