Western European travellers to Vietnam rise 13.91%

The Hanoitimes – According to the report of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the total number of travellers from five Western European countries reached 554,000 arrivals in the last nine months, up 13.91% from 2014 and 2015.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently has made a proposal to the Government to extend the visa exemption policy for citizens from five Western European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Germany and Italy from one year to five years.

Under the document, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed to rise visa-free stay for those tourists from 15 to 30 days to meet their demands.

The ministry also suggested the Government approve its proposal to provide unilateral visa exemption for citizens from another 13 countries who visit Vietnam on full-package tours.

According to the report of United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s visa openness, the share of tourists requiring to obtain a visa prior to travelling continues to decline, from 77% in 2008 to 61% in 2015.

In Asia-Pacific, in 2015, nearly 20% of the world population was able to travel to a destination without a visa, while another 23% could receive a visa on arrival and 11% was able to take e-visas.

The total number of countries and territories enjoying visa exemption increases to 169 so far.

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said that after nearly 10 months of offering visa waiver for Belarus and five Western European countries, the number of tourists from these markets has rised significantly.

Last year, Belarusian visitors to Vietnam reached nearly 6,000 arrivals, a 65% growth from 2014.

The statistics from the General Statistics Office pointed out that tourist arrivals to Vietnam in the third and fourth quarter of 2015, and the first three months of 2016 increased by 4.24%, 16.49% and 20%, respectively.

The total number of travellers from five Western European countries reached 554,000 in the last nine months, up 13.91% from 2014 and 2015.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, tourists from the five Western European countries have brought Vietnam an increase of more than 171 million USD in revenue.
