Vietnam Railways has announced a temporary service connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong Province, allowing passengers to travel more easily after a bridge collapse last month severed the north-south rail link.
Six trains will depart every day, including three from Saigon Station at 4:40 a.m., 5:10 a.m. and 4:30 pm, and three from Binh Duong’s Di An Station at 9:20 a.m., 12:08 pm and 1:30 p.m.
The service will last from April 15 to June 30, when a new rail bridge is built to replace the Ghenh Bridge in Dong Nai Province. The century-old bridge was struck by a vessel.
Tickets will cost between VND5,000 and VND10,000. The expected travel time is 40 minutes.
Do Quoc Trung, deputy director of Saigon Railway Transport Company, said the temporary trains aim to bring passengers from HCMC to Di An so they can take another train to central and northern provinces, and vice versa.
Currently, due to the bridge disaster, passengers have to catch a replacement bus to go between HCMC and Bien Hoa Station in Dong Nai Province.
