The event, co-organized by the city government and Japan’s international cultural association Wanoki, displayed 130 sakura plants and over 10,000 sakura branches shipped from Japan.

Due to hot weather, the organizers set up a makeshift greenhouse for protecting the sakura trees and branches.

Dang Thi Thu Huong, a visitor from the Mekong Delta, said she was excited to see sakura plants as this was the first time she had been able to witness real sakura flowers.

Tong Tuong Vi, a student from HCMC University of Architecture, said that like other young people, she is interested in Japanese culture and sakura flowers are not an exception.

Although sizzling hot weather in the city made the flowers less fresh and beautiful, Vi said she had a great time admiring the flowers and taking many photos with her friends.

The event aimed to introduce Japanese culture and promote trade and tourism ties between Japan and HCMC and Vietnam as a whole.
