US Presidential Election: Super Tuesday takes place

(VOVworld) – 12 states and American Samoa vote on Tuesday for candidates from both the Republican and Democratic party for the presidential nominations in the so-called Super Tuesday primaries, ahead of the race for the presidential election in November. Virginia was the first state to open polls while the last was Alaska.

There are 595 Republican delegates and 865 Democratic delegates up for grabs. Republicans will send 2,472 delegates to their national convention while Democrats will send 4,763 delegates. To win the nomination, a candidate must win more than 50% of the votes.

According to a poll on polictico.com, 70% of voters believed that Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton will be in the race for the presidency.
