VGP – The National Tourism Year 2016 – Phu Quoc – Mekong Delta with the theme “Discovering the Southern Land” was officially announced on February 22 in the southern province of Kien Giang.
This is the first activity among tourism, culture, art and sports activities which will be held within the framework of the National Tourism Year 2016.
The National Tourism Year will be officially kicked off in Phu Quoc in Kien Giang Province on April 9.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism affirmed that the successful organization of the National Tourism Year 2016 will make contribution to advertising the image and improving tourist products and awareness of the community in developing tourism.
On this occasion, U Minh Thuong National Park was granted a certificate recognizing as a Ramsar site.
Besides the State-scale activities held mainly in Kien Giang, other activities will take place in Ha Noi, Thua Thien-Hue, DaNang, HCMC, Can Tho, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang,Hau Giang and Ben Tre.
The upcoming event targets to raise awareness of tourism development and island and sea resource protection; develop sea and island tourism products.
The National Tourism Year also looks to advertise tangible and intangible cultural values and special tourism products in Kien Giang and participating localities.
Kien Giang Province also has ambitious plans to raise the number of hotels and hostels to 375 with 8,575 rooms by the end of this year to meet the increasing demand of tourists.
In 2016, the province plans to organize an array of events including a Mekong River Delta gastronomy festival, a national boat race, a traditional musical instrument festival, the 10th Khmer culture, sports and tourism day and Nghinh Ong festival.
