Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People’s Committee of Kien Giang province yesterday announced the 2016 National Tourism Year of Phu Quoc – Mekong Delta.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai shared: “The growth rate of Viet Nam’s tourism industry has risen strongly in previous years; particularly, the tourism sector received an estimated eight million international travelers and 57 million domestic tourists with total turnover of VND 330 trillion”.
“The success of National Tourism Year 2016 will contribute to not only promote and advertise further tourist services to domestic and international friends but also praise awareness of community for the country’s tourism development”, added Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai.
On the occasion, Kien Giang received a certificate recognizing Ramsar Site of the U Minh Thuong National Park as the 2,228th Ramsar Site in the world and the eighth Ramsar Site in Vietnam.
Ramsar Site is well- known as one of key’s peat swamp forests, and recognized as one among three main preserved places in the Mekong Delta.
At the ceremony, the organizing board also opened the annual Tao Dan Chieu Anh Cac festival that is organized in the first month of Lunar New Year. The activity brings the deep traditional cultural values of local residents.
