Tan Son Nhat Airport is taking various measures to deal with an anticipated sharp increase in travel demand for the upcoming Lunar New Year, the country’s most important holiday break that will last nine days this year.
A source from the Ho Chi Minh City airport said up to 720 flights are expected to take off from the airport in a single day during the season, up nearly 15 percent from the Tet period last year.
The daily number of passengers might grow 10 percent to around 99,700, it said.
Vietnam’s biggest airport also said it has been preparing for possible congestion by assigning more staff members to assisting passengers at the international terminal.
The airport will also add another screening machine there, raising the total number to ten, in a bid to cut waiting time, it said.
The Tet season will start on February 6 and last until February 14.
