VietNamNet Bridge – U Minh Thuong forest in the southern province of Kien Giang is classified as a rare, specific type of forest in the world. It has been recognized as a heritage park in Southeast Asia.
The road to the U Minh Thuong National Park, more than 60km to the south of Rach Gia City, Kien Giang is tranquil. |
The forest is located on a thick layer of peat. That is why water in this area is always black. To limit the risk of forest fires in the dry season, U Minh Thuong National Park is open to visitors only after the end of the dry season. |
This is a special flooded forest so visitors have to travel by boat, not on land as the other forests. |
From Cay Gon tower, the forest appears like a dream. The fog hovering among trees amazes visitors, because fog is very rare in Southern Vietnam. |
Trang Chim is dubbed the bird kingdom, which gathers more than hundred species of birds, including several species listed as globally threatened. The paths are bridges built from Melaleuca trees, which are called monkey bridges – a “specialty” of the Southwest region. |
After more than 200m of monkey bridges, Trang Chim comes out. |
|
The residential areas and the forest is divided by a wide canal. This is the path to the watchtower. |
Locals do farm work right at the edge of the forest. |
If you are lucky, you can see monkeys.
