In yet another attempt to boost its tourism, the central city of Da Nang has ordered its agencies to rate local restaurants and publish the results this month.
The restaurants, located in the tourist districts of Hai Chau, Hoa Vang, Ngu Hanh Son and Son Tra, will be rated on different factors such as hygiene and customer services. The rating will be reviewed and updated at the end of every November, according to the website.
Besides introducing new tourism products, Da Nang’s authorities have recently made various moves to improve its public image, from cleaning up low-end hotels to plans which raised many eyebrows such as forcing beachgoers to wear bikinis.
However, the city, which posted a year-on-year rise of 34 percent in foreign arrivals to 1.27 million last year, is still facing a range of problems.
Local media, for instance, have exposed that some restaurants and other tourist places hire thugs to bully customers into using their overcharged services, while at many hotels, security is so loose that thieves can break in and steal from customers’ rooms.
