(Cinet)- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has proposed the plan to give festivals a percentage score to marktheir content, management as well as their compliance with the laws by state agencies and newspapers.
Vietnam has about 8,000 festivals in 63 cities and provinces. It will be difficult for the state agencies as well as representatives of newspapers to attend all these festivals. That’s why they should focus on major festivals or events that are said to have serious problems.
The festivals will be given marks for their management, execution of their plan, how quick can the organizers deal with violations and compliance with the laws and ministry’s guidance.
The ministry hopes that by giving marks to local festivals, they can tighten the management and prevent illegal activities or disturbing rituals such as the annual Pig Slaughter Ceremony in Bac Ninh Province.
Based on the scores that the local organizers and their festivals will be categorized into four groups. Group A is for festivals with 95 to 100 marks, festivals score 85 to 94 are in group B and festivals with 51 to 84 marks are in group C. Group D includes those with less than 50 marks.
As known, traditional festivals constitute a form of cultural activities, a spiritual product which the people have created and developed during the course of history. From generation to generation, the Vietnamese people preserve the fine tradition of “remembering the source while drinking water.” Festivals are events which represent this tradition of the community as well as honour the holy figures named as “gods” – the real persons in national history or legendary persons. The images of gods converge the noble characteristics of mankind. They are national heroes who fought against foreign invaders, reclaimed new lands, treated people, fought against natural calamities, or those legendary characters who affect the earthly life. Festivals are events when people pay tribute to divinities that rendered merits to the community and the nation.
