From the center of the commune, visitors have to negotiate a 20-kilometer winding road to get to the village where Mong ethnic people make up a majority of the population.
Villagers build their homes on the mountainsides, which look like bird nests from afar. They mainly earn a living by growing crops and farming livestock. They still have no access to electricity, so they have small hydropower dams on streams. Once a week, they will go down the mountain to attend market sessions.
