It is the first time that farmers in Ngoc Lang vegetable village have visited and learned experiences in a famous vegetable village for tourism nationwide-Tra Que vegetable village (Quang Nam province). The tour was not long but there was enough time for Phu Yen farmers to expand their vision, study the way that the farmers in other provinces successfully conduct tourism. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, a farmer in Ngoc Lang vegetable village, said, “How wonderful! Even though we are farmers, we do like their vegetable villages; it’s certainly that tourists do, too!”
Most farmers in Ngoc Lang vegetable village are very excited with the project of developing the tourism product of vegetable village and expect that it is deployed soon, especially 4 households are selected as piloted. Mr. Huynh Ngoc An, one household selected as a pilot, said, “My house is at the top of the village, an old house with a large garden and standard indoor toilet. The conditions in the house partly meet the requirements, if we get supported with several categories as well as getting trained with tourism knowledge, I think I will do well with some services, including homestay”. Ms. Thuy also happily analyzed her house’s strengths: “It is convenient that my house is next to Ngoc Lang temple, which is an advantage for tourists to visit and experience the vegetable garden as well as the culture space of the village. Here, tourists can visit the garden and organize activities or team games (team building) in the family courts”. Mrs. Le Thi Thuy Dang, Deputy Head of Culture-Information Division in Tuy Hoa city, let known: the City People’s Committee has decided to choose the 4 households in the vegetable-flower village of Ngoc Lang to be funded for building the pilot model of homestay tourism. We will work with the function room of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to survey the field and implement immediately the next section in order to shape the attractive tourism products.
Besides the excitement, many comments are raised and proposals are made by the farmers that the authority agencies and local government soon take effective measures, consisting of opening short-term courses on communication skills, cooking techniques, baking techniques and common English classes; supporting more fund for infrastructure, public toilets, household toilet; cleaning the surroundings of vegetable village, landscaping, guarding security and order, creating a safe and friendly environment; enabling farmers to make loans with preferential interest rates; building parking lots, signposts…
