(VOV) – Top player Nguyen Tien Minh on October 15 was knocked out of the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix badminton tournament after suffering a harrowing second round defeat to Indonesia’s Simon Santoso.

On October 14, Minh, ranked world’s no 35 and no 1 seed at the tourney, handily defeated Chinese Taipei rival Yang Chin Hsun, to coast into the second round.

Minh faced ferocious opposition from very beginning, losing the first set 22-20. He fought back hard in the second set, winning it decisively 21-15.

In set three, Minh’s stamina started to wear thin providing Santoso with an opportunity, to secure victory of the set 21-13 and an overall 2-1 victory.

Santoso had previously beaten Minh all four times they have met since 2006.
