NA Standing Committee to discuss national electoral council
The 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 42nd session in Ha Noi on October 12, expected to give opinions about a national electoral council as well as the date for the NA and all-level People’s Council elections.
During the meeting, the NA Standing Committee will also scrutinise nine bills, the implementation of the 2015 socio-economic development plan, the 2015 State budget, budget estimates and allocation for next year, the diversification of the terms of Government bonds, and the issuance of Government bonds in foreign markets.
A Government report delivered after the opening ceremony showed that the country’s socio-economic situation continued recovering in the first nine months of 2015, with a number of encouraging outcomes and some challenges. The Cabinet has ensured sufficient macro-economic control. Numbers on economic growth, inflation, budget collection, overspending, import and export, and business have met set targets.
Gov’t to issue bonds in international market
The Government agreed on a plan to issue bonds in international capital markets in 2015 as proposed by the Ministry of Finance, according to a Resolution.
The Ministry of Finance is assigned to promptly finalize the Government’s draft Resolution on this matter and submit to the Prime Minister for issuance.
Duration of Government bonds is stipulated in the Law on Public Debt Management and Decree No. 01/2011/ND-CP dated January 05, 2011.
The Minister of Finance, authorized by the Prime Minister, shall represent the Government to report to the National Assembly for deployment permission from November 2015.
VN seeks US$21 bln to combat greenhouse gas emissions
Viet Nam needs US$21 billion to fulfill the goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, said Mr. Nguyen Khac Hieu, Deputy Director of Viet Nam Hydrometeorology and Climate Change Department.
The Deputy Director made the point in Ha Noi at a workshop announcing Viet Nam’s report on Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) which was submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on September 30.
VN extends condolences to Turkey over terrorist attacks
State President Truong Tan Sang has extended his condolences to President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan after terrorist attacks which killed at least 95 people in Ankara on October 10.
VN participates in La Francophonie ministerial meeting
A Vietnamese delegation attended the 31st Ministerial Conference of the Francophonie in the Armenian capital city of Yerevan that drew the participation of almost 30 foreign ministers of francophone countries and leaders of French-speaking organisations.
The event transpiring from October 10-11 reviewed the implementation of decisions at the 2014 Summit of La Francophonie and examined ways to promote peace and ensure stability in member nations such as the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Burundi and Mali, hailing efforts to preserve cultural and language diversity.
Participants underlined the need to spur economic cooperation among member countries and support the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Tourism likely to boom at year end
Thanks to numerous advantages in policy and market, the tourism sector was forecast to rebound in the rest of the year after constant declines in Q3, said Director General of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan.
The Director General also revealed that in October and November, the tourism sector will deploy over 100 trade promotion activities, especially the World Travel Market in the UK, ASIA STB in Singapore, roadshows in Germany, Italy, and Spain./.
Festival marks 90th anniversary of Cao Dai religion
More than 800 dignitaries and followers participated in a massive festival to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Cao Dai religion in Ha Noi on October 12.
Deputy Head of the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs Duong Ngoc Tan said the Vietnamese Party and State acknowledge and appreciate the sect’s remarkable contributions to national construction and defence. It raises tens of billions of VND annually for social charitable activities and poverty reduction efforts.
VPBank opens to foreign investors
Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VPBank) has asked shareholders to approve their plan to sell the bank’s stakes in several of its subsidiaries to foreign investors, an atypical opportunity for foreigners interested in entering the market.
Working with foreign investors is not a completely new venture for VPBank. After the Singapore-based Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (OCBC) withdrew its capital in 2013, the bank has had no foreign investors.
VPBank’s change of mind was announced on their website recently, along with details of the plan.
Shrimp exports on the road to recovery
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) anticipate shrimp exports to the US will grow following a final decision by the US Department of Commerce (DOC) to lower the anti-dumping duty on frozen shrimp imports.
“The ninth anti-dumping duty administrative review by the DOC covered the period February 1, 2013 to January 31, 2014 and the final decision reduced the average anti-dumping duty to 0.91%,” VASEP said.
The average rate was down from the 0.93% rate announced in the preliminary results earlier this year according to VASEP and much lower than final result for the period of review (POR) 8, which was at 6.37%.
Vietnamese people drink beer in greater volume
Vietnam is listed among top five Asia beer-drinking countries and its people drink most beer in Southeast Asia, according to a recent survey of Kantar Worldpanel Viet Nam.
Vietnamese people also drink beer more and more, up 11% against last year’s corresponding period./.
