International Travel Expo 2015 opens in Ho Chi Minh City

NDO – The 11th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC 2015) opened at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre on September 9, considered the largest annual event of Vietnam’s tourism sector.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh noted that the expo has been held ten times and has become the leading tourism event in Vietnam and among the lower Mekong sub-region countries, contributing to promoting the image and tourism sector of Vietnam and other regional countries.

Since 2014, the ITE HCMC has seen the participation of five countries including Cambodia, Lao, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam, helping to promote and diversify tourism products and services based on the combination of the various tourism industries of each country.

This year’s event attracted the participation of more than 220 regional buyers and 100 domestic buyers consisting of travel agencies from the five countries of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

Within the framework of the expo, international buyers and the media will take part in a field trip surveying tourism in several localities in Vietnam including Cu Chi, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Tien Giang and Ho Chi Minh City.

On the occasion, the Organising Board presented the 7th Mekong Tourism Alliance Awards (MTAA) 2015 to tourism agencies from the five participating countries in recognition of their excellence in tourism and hospitality.

The award categories include Best Airlines of the Year, Best Outbound Travel Operator of the Year, Best Inbound Travel Operator of the Year, Best Five Star Hotel of the Year, Best Resort of the Year and Most Attractive Tangible Heritage of the Year.

The expo, which will run until September 12, is expected to draw 25,000 visitors.
