The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has collected ideas for a project that aims to encourage more reading among Vietnamese people – especially children. The project would cost about VND230 billion (US$10.2 million).
Under the draft version, the money will be spent on equipping facilities and buying books for local libraries.
A survey by the ministry shows that Vietnamese people only read one book per year on average. That average is about 12 in Western countries.
What do you think of the project? Do you think it will work? What should Viet Nam do to encourage people to read more? If you are an expat, could you share what helped you form a habit out of reading books? How do your parents or teachers encourage you become a book-lover?
