Tourism department to launch in Ha Noi

HA NOI (VNS)— The Ha Noi People’s Committee has decided to establish the Ha Noi Department of Tourism.

Formerly, tourist activities were fell under the management of the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The new department will be responsible for managing tourism enterprises in the city. It will also set up plans and programmes on tourism promotion, events, fairs and exhibitions.

It will be charged with protecting the city’s tourism resources and destinations.

The department’s headquarters will be at 17 Dien Bien Phu Road in Ba Dinh District.

The establishment of a separate department is expected to boost tourism and help fully utilise the city’s strengths, according to the municipal People’s Committee.

In the first six months of the year, more than 10 million foreign and local tourists visited Ha Noi, an increase of four per cent over the same period last year.

More than 1.6 million of visitors were foreigners, a year-on-year increase of 8.8 per cent.

The Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism had plans to attract more tourists.

It said the city had some disadvantages, for instance, the environment was polluted and and taxis and shops often overcharged visitors.

Last year, HCM City Department of Tourism was also separated from the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. — VNS
