VietNamNet Bridge – A vegetable farm in Cu Chi District in Ho Chi Minh City has organized classes for tourists who want to work as farmers and chefs. More than 1,000 foreign visitors join the classes each month.
This is a new eco-tourism program in the city. Visitors will be instructed to plant popular vegetables and fruit in Vietnam. The fruits of lessons are tasty dishes prepared by students. |
Acting both as a chef and a farmer, Mr. Luong Viet Tan guided a group of tourists to grow mushrooms. |
The farm has rice fields to help visitors learn more about major food crops in Vietnam. |
After being guided by instructors, tourists played the role of farmers to plant and harvest traditional vegetables and fruits of Vietnam, including peanuts, shallots, eggplant and beans. |
Tan said this farm has been operating for two years, planting the most popular vegetables and fruit in Vietnam. All products are organic. |
The farm only uses organic fertilizer. |
The vegetables and fruits are harvested to use for the cooking classes. |
After having fund in the field, tourists are taught to cook tasty dishes of Vietnam, such as pancakes, spring rolls, salad and pho, depending on their requirements. |
Chefs will guide tourists to cut vegetables properly. |
Mr. Jason, an American tourist, is learning how to make Vietnamese pancakes. |
They can add spices to dishes to fit their taste. |
The fees for a class are from VND1.3 million ($70)/person, depending on the menu and study time. |
After the class, students are granted a certificate of honor from the farm. |
