A video clip featuring an American teacher’s trip around the north-central province of Nghe An has gone viral recently.
The video, titled “Nghệ An trong mắt người bạn Mỹ” (Nghe An in the Eyes of an American Friend), was created by Dustin Gerding and Tran Vinh Quy, the director of the English center where Gerding teaches, in collaboration with Flow Motion, a local filmmaking group.
In the video, 30-year-old Gerding, who is based in Nghe An’s Vinh City, and his friend Hoang Linh lead viewers on a motorbike trip to places the two love in the province, including Ho Chi Minh Square, the Vinh Ancient Citadel, Quyet Mountain, Ben Thuy Bridge, Cua Lo Beach, Lan Chau Island and more.
“I love Nghe An, especially the food, the people and the coffee,” Gerding said in the footage. “But what I love most is traveling, and I love to see everything in Nghe An with my friend, Linh.”
The video has impressed viewers with its catchy background music and stunning aerial views of local destinations.
The clip has reached more than 42,000 views and over 500 likes around ten days since it was posted.
It has also received compliments from people who said the video has made them homesick or pushed them to love the province more.
Gerding said that before moving to Vietnam in 2013, he had stayed in 17 countries, so at first, he thought Nghe An was also just one of the places he would stop by.
However, after two years of staying and working as an English language teacher in Vinh City, he has decided to live here longer, or even forever.
In the video, Gerding said, “Maybe my body is American, but my heart will forever be Vietnamese.”
He added that for the love of kids, love of traveling and exploring new lands, he wants to live in a developing city and help a lot of people.
“Living and working in Vinh City, I have met a lot of interesting friends and feel happy when sharing my life with them,” Gerding told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. “Riding through the city’s streets, looking at colorful houses, smelling grilled corn and eel soup or relaxing in a café brings me the feeling of love.”
“I know that’s home,” he confided.
Meanwhile, in talking about the making of the video, Quy said the process started at the end of June, and the filmmaking crew used a drone camera to shoot it.
“There were days when we had to wake up at five in the morning and began filming to avoid the daylight heat,” Quy said, adding they had to re-shoot several scenes thanks to technical mistakes.
“The most regretful thing is that there was no soccer match at the time we shot the video so we were not able to capture the sport – a pride of our province,” Quy added.
After creating the clip, Quy plans to make other videos capturing various locations in the province.
