HA NOI — From this Saturday, passengers arriving from South Korea will no longer be required to report their health status at immigration, announced the Ministry of Health today.

The compulsory filling of a health declaration form for travellers coming from South Korea had been initiated from June 3 by the Vietnamese government as a precaution against the spread of the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) virus into the country.

Travellers from Middle East countries affected by the MERS virus are still required to fill out the health forms before being allowed to enter.

Since May 20, when the first patient tested positive for the virus, it spread rapidly over South Korea, killing 36 people and infecting 186.

On July 28, the South Korean government declared a de facto end to the MERS outbreak after no new cases were reported in the two weeks prior to that. — VNS
