Chan May port receives largest ever cruise ship

NDO – The cruise ship Voyager of the Seas docked at the Chan May port in Thua Thien-Hue province on August 9, carrying more than 4,000 passengers and nearly 1,800 crew members visiting Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An.

Voyager of the Seas is the largest ever cruise ship to dock at Chan May port, which measures 311m in length and 48m in width with 15 levels and 1,306 rooms.

Voyager of the Seas is owned by the Royal Caribbean International is the world’s third largest cruise ship serving the Asian and Oceanian cruise lines. It is the first cruise ship to anchor in Chan May after the port was upgraded to receive large cruise ships.

The project on upgrading the Chan May port commenced early this year with a total investment of VND310 billion (US$14.26 million), aiming to expand the port to receive large ships with lengths up to 362m.

Chan May port is scheduled to receive the cruise ship Quantum of the Seas with a length of 347m and a capacity of nearly 5,000 passengers and 1,500 crew members visiting Hue on September 21.

Chan May port is located in the centre of Vietnam between the two biggest cities in the Central region – Hue and Da Nang. The port also lies on the main sea route connecting Singapore with the Philippines and Hong Kong (China). Chan May is among 46 seaports in Southeast Asia selected by the Asia Cruise Association as a stopover for cruise ships.
