NDO – The 2015 ASEAN traditional music festival kicked off in Thanh Hoa city on August 1, as part of activities under the framework of the 2015 National Tourism Year.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien and art troupes from countries including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Republic of Korea.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Bien stressed the 2015 ASEAN traditional music festival is part of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Vietnam joining ASEAN and 48th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN.
The festival aims to introduce and honour traditional music of Southeast Asian countries; promote the values and potentials of cultural heritages; and contribute to promoting tourism in Vietnam and throughout the ASEAN countries, according to Deputy Minister Bien.
The festival offers an opportunity to exchange and discover different cultures and the traditional music of other ASEAN countries.
Artists joining the festival will perform 90-minute art performances to audiences at Lam Son theatre free-of-charge, including solo artists, musical ensembles and folk performances.
Under the framework of the festival, a workshop on traditional music of ASEAN countries will be held.
The festival runs until August 6.
