PANO – Many interesting activities will take place during the Vietnamese Cultural Day in the US from August 8 to 12 in Washington, D.C and New York, according to a press conference on July 21 by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the US Embassy in Vietnam.
At the conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien stressed the importance of the event as a promotion for the two countries’ cooperation in the time to come. It will also help enhance the mutual understanding between the two people in another meaningful way.
For his part, US Embassy Counselor for Public Affairs Terry J White highlighted the event which will introduce the culture and people of Vietnam via daily activities to Americans, so that they could learn more about Vietnam’s culture and its people.
The highlights of the event will be three artistic programs, namely “Essence of Vietnam”, introducing typical cultures of regions in Vietnam, to kick-start the Vietnamese cultural days in the US on August 8th at the Terrace Theatre, the Kennedy Center; “Cultural Colors of Vietnam’s Ethnic Minority Groups” on August 10th; and “Lotus’ Night” featuring the pure beauty of the lotus on August 11th at the Millennium Stage.
Another interesting program is a fashion show themed “Miraculous Transformation” on August 9th at the Millennium Stage. Through the language of fashion, designers Minh Hanh, Lan Huong, Quang Nhat and Chula will demonstrate the wonderful changes of Vietnam-US ties over the past 20years.
Additionally, the traditional costumes, musical instruments and handicrafts of Vietnam will be introduced at an exhibition under the theme “Colors of Vietnam” and with an Ao dai (traditional long dress of Vietnam) show at the New York Historical Society Museum and Library.
The Vietnamese Cultural Day in the US, co-organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnamese Embassy in the US and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, will be on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties (1995-2015).
