PVN chairman suspended
Nguyen Xuan Son, chairman of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN), has been suspended under the Prime Minister’s Decision 1105/QD-TTg signed on Sunday with immediate effect. Son would take up a new post at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Nguyen Quoc Khanh, general director at PVN, temporarily chairs the board of the State-run group.
VND480 trillion for power projects
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has spent nearly VND480 trillion developing power plants and transmission lines in the 2011-2015 period, according to VietnamPlus.
In the past five years, the group has commissioned 34 power generators with a total capacity of 9,852 MW and broken ground for ten power projects nationwide. Besides, as many as 865 transformer stations and transmission lines were connected to the national grid in the period.
In the next five years, EVN will complete 11 power plants with a combined generation capacity is 5,819 MW.
Murder suspect detained
The police in the north-central province of Nghe An have arrested the 24-year-old Vi Van Hai, also known as Man, for allegedly murdering four people in a family in Tuong Duong District early this month, Thanh Nien reports.
Hai reportedly picked lemons in the garden of Lo Van Tho on July 2 and was caught by Tho. They had a quarrel before Hai stabbed Tho to death. Hai then killed Tho’s wife and the 11-month-old child she was holding and Tho’s mother nearby.
Hai reportedly had a love affair with Tho’s wife before the murders.
Tourist boat put into service in Danang
Hoang Gia Investment Co. has put into operation Harem 2 tourist boat for sightseeing tours along the Han River at night and around Son Tra Peninsula in Danang City and to Cham islet off Quang Nam Province. The boat is equipped with devices for beach games and diving and can carry over 200 people at a time, Tuoi Tre reports.
According to Tran Chi Cuong, deputy director of the Danang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the boat helps diversify tourism products of the central coast city and offers new experiences to tourists.
VN, Japan scientists discuss agriculture cooperation
Vietnamese and Japanese scientists and experts in the fields of micro-electro-mechanical and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies discussed measures to boost cooperation in researching, designing, manufacturing and applying technologies to agriculture at a seminar in HCMC on July 20, Vietnam News Agency reports.
Participants introduced the latest results of studies on sensor and IoT technologies for agricultural development. They also discussed development orientations and ways to strengthen links and develop cooperation programs.
Helicopter tours launched
KLF International Investment Joint Venture Joint Stock Company and Northern Vietnam Helicopter Company (VNH) on July 20 introduced a new tour service using EC 130 T2 helicopter at Hanoi’s Gia Lam Airport.
Tran Dinh Nam at VNH said helicopter tour service is new in Vietnam, and that in the past helicopters were mainly used for chartered flights and for travels between the mainland and offshore oil rigs.
The modern EC 130 T2 helicopter has seats for two pilots and five to six passengers and helps reduce operation costs for the companies compared to other helicopters like MI 17, MI 172 and EC 155 B1.
