PANO – Ho Chi Minh City welcomed more 2 million foreign tourists in the first half of this year, up by 3% compared with 2014, reaching 46% of the set plan for the entire year. Tourism revenue (from travel agencies, hotels, restaurants) hit more than VND 47 trillion, an increase of 7% compared to last year.
Facing a declining number of international tourists, the city’s tourism sector has conducted various tourism promotion programs such as Fruit Festival, Food Festival, etc. Publications such as brochures and maps in both Vietnamese and English have been issued while an information section has been set up on the website of the city’s Department of Tourism together with the operation of a tourism switchboard (1087).
In the coming time, the city’s Department of Tourism will focus on enhancing the quality of tourism products and services, especially waterway tourism, art programs serving tourists and so on. In addition, the city will also promote tourism via the construction of tourism infrastructure and tourist information supply system.
