VGP – Foreign arrivals in the country were estimated to number 593,600 in July, up 12.1% against last month and 5.1% against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
In the January-July period, over 4.3 million foreigners came to Viet Nam, however, representing a year-on-year decline of 9.4%. Around 3.621 people travelled by air (down 6.5%); 745,000 on road (down 20.6%); and 31,800 by sea (down 25.4%).
In the first seven months, 2.917 million Asian guests arrived in Viet Nam. The figure declined by 9.7% against the same period last year.
Important markets faced declines, including China with 950,800 people (down 24.4%); Cambodia 128,700 (down 43.9%); and Thailand 112,000 (down 31.2%).
Meanwhile, other markets saw a rise in the number of arrivals such as the Republic of Korea with 626,300 people (up 35.5%); Japan with 367,000 (up 1.2%); Taiwan with 255,400 (up 3.8%) and Singapore with 126,800 (up 13.4%).
So far, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the General Department of Tourism have worked with other agencies and localities to deploy visa exemption for five European countries including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belarus and map out action plans to conduct tourism promotion programs./.
