The carrier’s Airbus 320 aircraft landed at Can Tho Airport at 1 p.m. on July 21 and then departed for Bangkok at 2:15 p.m. in the tripartite partnership between Thai VietJet, Vietravel and the government of Can Tho.

Truong Van Vinh, director of Vietravel’s branch in the Mekong Delta region, told the Daily that passengers occupied all of the 180 seats of the flight from Bangkok to Can Tho and Vietravel’s guests booked 157 seats on the return flight.

“Most of the passengers are Vietnamese people buying tours of Vietravel,” Vinh said.

Talking to the Daily, Can Tho vice chairman Dao Anh Dung said if the service was successful, the city would work with other airlines and travel firms to operate flights to Singapore and Malaysia to bring leisure and business travelers to the Mekong Delta region.

According to Vinh, the next flights between Can Tho and Bangkok are scheduled for July 25, July 29 and August 2. One-way airfares for the flights start from VND2.699 million and air-tickets can be booked at www.ticketglobal.com.

If customers buy the Can Tho-Bangkok-Pattaya tour of Vietravel, the total price is VND6.89 million per person. Customers can buy the tour at Vietravel’s offices in Can Tho, Ca Mau, Rach Gia, Phu Quoc and Chau Doc.

As scheduled, the flight from Can Tho will take off at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Bangkok one hour later.

At the introduction event of the route in Can Tho City on July 6, Vietravel deputy general director Tran Doan The Duy said the company was finding ways to take European, American and Australian tourists in Bangkok to Can Tho via the service.

Guests of Vietravel tours to Thailand make up 40% of the company’s customers buying overseas tours.

Statistics of Thai VietJet showed the number of international passengers traveling from Thailand to Vietnam was around 100,000 in the first half of this year, down 30% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Tran Viet Phuong, director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the city attracted more than one million tourists in January-June, up 60%, and posted tourism revenue of VND970 billion, up 85%.
