— Vietnam will start sending medical staff and sappers to join UN peacekeeping forces in international missions by the end of next year.
— The Vietnam Coast Guard unit protecting the southwestern waters of the country was given a new patrol ship, named CSB 4035, on Monday. The 426-ton vessel, domestically built, can run at a maximum speed of 34.5 nautical miles an hour.
Society
— Authorities in the central city of Da Nang have helped build and repair as many as 1,188 houses for local ethnic minority families and those that sacrificed for Vietnam’s revolutionary cause in wartime.
— Vietnam will carry out a program to provide vaccination against measles and rubella for over two million people in vulnerable areas across the nation by the end of this year.
— In the last two days, the northern province of Quang Ninh has experienced the heaviest rains in the last 40 years. Downpours and floodwaters have inundated many streets and residential areas, killing three.
— Provinces in the Mekong Delta have suffered a shortage of fresh water although the places have had the first rains in the last days. Salt water has deeply intruded into farms and rivers due to a short supply of fresh water.
— Tan Binh District in Ho Chi Minh City has four new schools in the 2015-16 academic year that starts in mid-August.

— The People’s Committee of Hanoi has decided to issue bonds worth VND4 trillion (US$184 million) this year for construction works in the capital city.
— Da Lat City in the Central Highlands yesterday hosted an international conference on developing trade in the border areas of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
— Vietnam spent over VND9 trillion ($416 million) importing pesticides and $1.2 billion buying medicines in the first seven months this year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
— The speed for vehicles running on highways at the entrance to Ho Chi Minh City has been raised by 10 more kilometers an hour. That means motorbikes are allowed to run at a maximum speed of 50kph and cars at 60kph.

— The second Saigon Chamber Music Festival in 2015 will take place from August 1 to 9 at the Conservatory of Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of many international artists.
— A mini book festival will be held in October in Ho Chi Minh City, attended by 20 leading publishers from Japan.
