The second annual ASEAN Pride music festival, sponsored by the US Embassy, with the theme “Celebrating Family, “featuring acts from across Southeast Asia to raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues.

This year’s festival builds on last year’s Pride Festival which celebrated diversity with artists from the US and around the ASEAN region, including US indie rock band Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Vietnam’s own transgender pop sensation Huong Giang Idol, Malaysia’s O.J. Law and Thai girl rockers Yellow Fang, Saigon’s COCC.

An exhibition organised by the Associated Press (AP) with themed”Vietnam: The Real War”

Featuring 50 images which capture the drama and tragedy of people in the Vietnam War.

The highlight of the exhibition will be Malcolm Browne’s horrific photograph of an elderly Buddhist monk who voluntarily set ablaze during a protest against the South Vietnamese government and Nick Ut’s famous picture of a 9-year-old girl running scorched and naked from a napalm attack.

The event will also display other renowned photos of AP photographers including Horst Faas and Henri Huet.

In the first part of a two-part special series within the European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival, new films by young filmmakers from Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam will be presented on June 14. Moreover, two Docfilm Networks will be presented in the afternoon: Lumière du Monde – EurasiaDoc and DocNet SEA “Dare to Dream”.

The afternoon program will be followed in the evening by the award-winning music documentary Sound of Heimat by German director Arne Birkenstock, who will personally present his film.

In the second part of a special series within the European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival, new films by young filmmakers from Myanmar and Vietnam as well as the film My Son – The Heritage Sanctuary from National Film Studio will be presented on Thursday, June 18.

The films display a dazzling range of topics; the tone alternates between humorous and serious. The various locations and characters lead the audience to places outside of the public eye and tell the stories of those who often have no voice.
