Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien wore another gold medal on her neck after setting a record at the ongoing 2015 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore on Wednesday.
exuberant swimmer smashed the women’s 400m freestyle record by clocking 4:08.66 and added the seventh gold medal to her collection at the 28th SEA Games.
Yesterday’s record was also the eighth of its kind the 19-year-old broke at the event.
Vien had earlier smashed records in the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle; 200m butterfly stroke; 200m backstroke; and 200m and 400m individual medley events.
The Vietnamese swimmer, who was admitted into the army and is now the youngest captain in its history, broke the 400m individual medley records in both the qualifying and final competitions.
Vien has stolen the limelight of almost every competition at the ongoing SEA Games whenever she is in the pool, and she still has the chance to bring home more gold as the woman is competing in the 200m breaststroke and 100m butterfly stroke categories today, June 11.
The only swimming event Vien did not participate in at the SEA Games is the 100m backstroke.
Vien also won a bronze medal each in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke events, where she lost to host rivals Quah Ting Wen and Tao Li, respectively.
She has surpassed her target of taking home six gold medals. The talented young swimmer will also enter history as the Vietnamese athlete who has won the most gold medals at the SEA Games.
At the 2003 SEA Games in Vietnam, shooter Nguyen Manh Tuong won six golds.
