Vietnamese sprinter Nguyen Thi Huyen wins gold medal at Asian Grand Prix

Nguyen Thi Huyen has bagged a gold medal in women’s 400m in the second leg of the ongoing 2015 Asian Grand Prix series in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

The 22-year-old sprinter from Nam Dinh Province completed with the fastest time at the competition on June 25 in just 52.27 seconds, 0.42 second faster than the Kazakh silver medalist Yuliya Rakhmanova.

Rakhmanova had finished first with 53.26 seconds in the series’ first leg held in Bangkok last week, when Huyen only finished at the fifth position with 54.71 seconds.

At the recent 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, Huyen won three gold medals, breaking one Games record and being qualified for the 2016 Olympics in the 400m and 400m hurdles events.

At the series’ second leg, Huyen’s teammate Quach Thi Lan claimed the fourth place in women’s 400m with 52.75 seconds.

Tran Hue Hoa brought home an additional silver medal for Vietnam in the women’s triple jump after clearing a distance of 13.75 meters.

Vietnam won three silver medals in the first leg of the competition on June 22, including Do Thi Thao in women’s 800m, Quach Cong Lich in men’s 400m and Quach Thi Lan in the women’s 400m.

The final leg of the 2015 Asian Grand Prix will take place in Chanthaburi, Thailand on June 29.
