PM proposes solutions to boost CLMV collaboration
PM Nguyen Tan Dung proposed a number of measures to bolster cooperation between Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) while attending the seventh CLMV Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The foursome should enhance connections in policies and infrastructure to facilitate cross-border transport and trade activities, he said.
He suggested enhancing the quality of human resources to serve industrialization and integration while proactively promoting connections in training programs with international organizations and development partners to ensure a relevant workforce for businesses and industrial parks as well as guarantee the rights of employees.
The four countries should increase communication campaigns about the potential and competitive advantages of CLMV along with new business opportunities from innovation programs, he stressed.
VN, Myanmar eye US$500 mln trade this year
PM Nguyen Tan Dung and Myanmar President Thein Sein declared their determination to achieve US$500 million in trade this year during their meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar.
The guest asked for continued support for Vietnamese firms operating in Myanmar, especially those in banking, oil and gas, telecommunications and industrial plants while extending cooperation to seafood cultivation and processing for export.
He suggested modifying the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement and the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement to facilitate trade and investment between the two countries.
Both host and guest pledged to work closely at regional and global forums, especially ASEAN and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, while maintaining solidarity on important security issues within ASEAN.
Deputy PM receives outgoing ADB Country Director
Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai affirmed the increasingly important role of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Viet Nam’s socio-economic development, especially in poverty reduction and clean water supply.
Receiving outgoing ADB Country Director Tomoyuki Kimura, Hai said that Kimura had a successful working tenure in Viet Nam and made great contributions to enhancing cooperation between the country and the ADB.
Kimura confirmed that the ADB will stay by Viet Nam’s side during the country’s development process while talking with the host about the bank’s major policy and strategy orientations to support member states and Viet Nam in particular.
NA approves law on promulgating normative legal documents
National Assembly (NA) deputies adopted the law on promulgating normative legal documents and the resolution on lump-sum social insurance payments for workers at the NA’s ninth session.
Lawmakers also exchanged views on the Maritime Code of Viet Nam with a focus on maritime development policies, State management on maritime issues, maritime inspections and banned maritime activities. Issues relating to seaports and ships were also under discussion.
Four athletes to join Olympics Brazil 2016
Four Vietnamese athletes have earned their berth in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.
They include two marksmen Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong, swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, and track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen.
Viet Nam’s sports sector targets to secure 10-15 Brazil Olympics tickets in such areas as shooting, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, fencing, and weightlifting.
HN’s CPI in June rises 0.13%
Ha Noi’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June saw increases of 0.13% compared to the previous month and 0.98% against the same period last year.
This is the fourth successive month Ha Noi experienced a CPI rise.
Earlier, the capital city witnessed increases of 0.12%, 0.2% and 0.38% in May, April and March, respectively.
The group of housing, electricity, water, fuel and building material augmented 0.06% against last month.
Meanwhile, such groups as food and restaurant and foodstuff decreased 0.43% and 0.55%, respectively.
Tien Giang’s export value reaches nearly US$800 million in H1
The southern province of Tien Giang earned more than US$792 million from exporting in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 22%.
The province strives to gain an export value of US$858 million in the second half of the year, raising its total export turnover of the year to US$1.65 billion, 3% higher than the target set for the year and up 11.5% from last year.
VN lychee enters Australian market
As many as 17 tons of Vietnamese fresh lychee have been exported to Australia, marking the first time the fruit has gained entry into this market.
Sending Vietnamese lychee to Australia has taken 12 years and several rounds of negotiations. It is hoped that successful lychee exports to Australia will pave the way for other Vietnamese agricultural products to enter the country.
