The play ‘Sand Castle’ by the Vietnam Drama Theatre will be staged at the competition.

NDO – Nineteen arts troupes from across the country are participating in the 2015 National Professional Drama Competition which officially kicked off in the central province of Thanh Hoa on June 21.

The competition features 29 plays that reflect the indomitable spirit of our forefathers in the cause of national construction and defence, and honour the revolutionary heroism and brave spirit of the Vietnamese people during the national resistance wars against France and the US.

The works submitted to the competition also praise positive examples in the national renewal cause as well as condemn social ills.

In addition to gold and silver prizes for outstanding plays and actors, prestigious awards will be given to the best writers, directors, musicians, choreographers, painters and lighting designers.

The event aims to honour individuals and collectives that have made outstanding achievements in artistic creation and made active contributions to the stage.

The competition also offers an opportunity for arts troupes and artists to meet, promote creations and focus on staging new high-quality plays, meeting people’s increasing demand for the arts.

The 2015 National Professional Drama Competition, which was co-organised Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists and the Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will last until July 6.
