Vietnam’s Phi Son vies for the ball with a Timor-Leste player in a Group B match at the 28th South East Asian Games in Singapore on June 7, 2015
Vietnam officially won a ticket to the semifinal at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after defeating Timor-Leste 4-0 in a Group B match at the Bishan Stadium in Singapore on Sunday.
Like what Coach Toshiya Miura told the media ahead of the match, Vietnam followed attacking strategy from the beginning, despite the fact that Timor-Leste had sharp counterattacks.
Vietnam took the lead in the 12th minute with a header from Phi Son.
The second goal for Vietnam also came from a header by Mac Hong Quan in the 49th minute as he got a good pass from captain Que Ngoc Hai.
It was Hai who scored the third goal for Vietnam in a right wing attack when his passing attempt from a narrow angle veered the ball toward the net of goalkeeper Ramos Maxanches.
In the 58th minute, Thanh Binh was sent to the field to replace Mac Hong Quan and just three minutes later, he had a dangerous shot on target. And Huy Toan was at the right place when the ball bounced out from goalkeeper Maxanches.
Vietnam will play Thailand on June 10 to determine the leading position of Group B. Both teams have booked their tickets to the semifinals.
In Group A, Myanmar is leading with high possibilities to advance to the next round, while the other slot can be secured by Indonesia, Singapore or Cambodia.
