The event was co-held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Olympics Committee and the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, aiming to boost spirits and confidence in the national athletes team ahead of their departure for the Games.
In his remarks, Tran Duc Phan, head of Vietnam’s 28th SEA Games contingent, affirmed that all athletes are now ready for the region’s largest sporting event and will strive to do their best to bring home a number of glorious achievements.
On behalf of the athletes, Que Ngoc Hai, captain defender of the Vietnam U-23 football team, swore an oath to compete with the utmost determination for top results while maintaining the spirit of acquisition and fair-play.
At the ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh presented the national flag to Tran Duc Phan and wished the Vietnam sports delegation success and victory at the upcoming Games.
Vietnam will send a team of 570 members – 392 athletes and 178 trainers and experts – to Singapore next month, competing for medals in 28 out of 36 sports. The delegation targets to win between 56 and 70 gold medals and make the overall podium, with ‘golden’ hopes mostly pinned on athletes in athletics, shooting, gymnastics and swimming.
The flag salute was solemnly conducted. A martial arts performance by Vietnamese athletes Hundreds of athletes joined together to make a meaningful night full of enthusiasm and determination.
