32 years ago, after collecting opinions from some 300 scientist across the world, a dictionary named “The 20th Century Culture” was completed and released in 1983 by the US publishing house of Harper and Row. There is an entry about Ho Chi Minh’s life and career in the dictionary. In late December 1999, when human beings were to welcome the 21st century, The Times and CBS announced the list of the 100 most important people of the 20th century, as the result of a survey of 7 million people across the world. Our Uncle Ho was included to the list. Our Uncle Ho was also selected by The Times as one among the 20 most charismatic leaders and revolutionaries in the world in the 20th century.

As of 1987, only 21 historical brilliant persons in the world had been recognized by UNESCO as the people who had made great contribution to human civilization and progress. On May 19th, 1990, our Uncle Ho was officially honored by UNESCO as hero of national liberation and preeminent cultural man. The UNESCO resolution underlined that Ho Chi Minh was a bright symbol of the worldwide national liberation movement, who dedicated his whole life to the Vietnamese national liberation cause, contributing to the common struggle of nations for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress. UNESCO also suggested its 150 member nations combined the celebration of Ho Chi Minh’s 100th birthday with activities to commemorate the late outstanding Vietnamese leader so as all people could learn his great thought and his contribution to the Vietnamese national liberation cause and international national liberation movement.

It was not by chance when President Ho Chi Minh was highly valued and respected by people around the world. In 1923 at the first meeting with Nguyen Ai Quoc (a name of President Ho Chi Minh), Soviet poet OxipMandenxtam realized the young Vietnamese man as a great character, saying that Nguyen Ai Quoc generated a culture, which was not an European one but probably a future culture. On September 2nd 1969, when he heard the news about President Ho Chi Minh’s death, Mao Zedong sent condolences, saying that Ho Chi Minh’s heart covered the entire country; Ho Chi Minh was the only hero in history; he was a star brighter than the sun and the moon; he was the greatest ever man in both Asia and Europe. Ho Chi Minh – eternal source of encouragement

Former Cuban President Phidel Castro said, Ho Chi Minh was a very special man, he never died in people’s heart, and he was an internal source of encouragement.

What is more, official statistics show that as many as 60 million people, including 7 million foreigners from 160 countries and territories, visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum from 1969 to 2014. Many international organizations and leaders of countries across the world visited the mausoleum and paid respect to President Ho Chi Minh during the period.

Not only Vietnamese people but also other nations have good feelings and respect President Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh has been named to streets, schools, squares and parks in many countries across the world, and 15 countries, including Russia, France, Britain, Thailand and Mexico, have erected monuments of Ho Chi Minh.

The above exemplary figures demonstrate how deeply Vietnamese people love their “Father”, and how deeply international friends respect President Ho Chi Minh.

In fact, Vietnamese people are also proud that the nation has President Ho Chi Minh. To deserve to be his offspring, Vietnamese people have been following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideal in building and defending the country, over the past years. Indeed, President Ho Chi Minh always serves as a guiding star and a great national leader for Vietnamese people in their national liberation wars in the past, and as an eternal source of encouragement for the Vietnamese people head for peace, prosperity and happiness at present and in the future.
