International visitor numbers to rebound in fourth quarter

PANO – About 2.7 million foreign visitors arrived in Vietnam in the first 4 months of this year, a decrease of 12.2 percent from the same period last year, requiring the tourism industry to consider its strategy, said General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Van Tuan at a press conference.

The official also announced the number of domestic travellers at over 25 million, an increase of 10 percent in comparison with the same period last year, especially during the national holidays.

Besides, the tourism turnover rose over the past time, so the agency has kicked off many tourism-marketing strategies to attract more visitors, he added.The agency’s strategies specified priorities for the country’s tourism, including development of brands of unique and diverse products, such as cultural heritage, beach, sea and islands, and eco-tourism.

According to Tuan, the tourism industry should develop a friendly environment for its customers by adopting three solutions, including the participation of society in maintaining security, doing environmental sanitation, and providing support for tourists to attract more visitors.
