A monument to commemorate the Saigon revolutionary commandos who laid down their lives in the Tet General Offensive and Uprising in 1968 is planned to be built in the Independence Palace.
On May 13th, the Governmental Office said that Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam had, in principle, agreed on a project to build a memorial for the fallen Saigon revolutionary commandos in the Independence Palace.
The Deputy PM asked the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal People’s Committee to consult Ministries of Construction, and Culture, Sports and Tourism on the project.
Earlier, the city had handed the project to the Government for approval.
Under the project, the monument will impact part of the fence and the site of the Independence Palace.
According to the design, the memorial may be shaped like a segment of bamboo, symbolizing the Independence Palace, with a big incense burner in front, be 2.7 meters in width and 4.5 meters in height, and made of granite.
Words, praising the fallen Saigon commandos’ heroism and bravery, may also be written on the monument.
